About Us

We are Tyler & Courtney Newell.  We grew up in Sunbury, Ohio and graduated from Big Walnut.  We were high school sweethearts, married in 2010, and moved north to Cardington, Ohio.  After a few years in Cardington and suffering our first pregnancy loss, we decided to start making maple syrup to keep our minds occupied during the gray winter months.  We started out with 20 taps in our parents front yards and instantly became addicted!  Fast forward a few years, we now have an elaborate tubing system in Kilbourne, Ohio with approximately 800 taps and our very own sugar house!

We built the sugar house (pictured above) on our property in Cardington.  It is completed with a 2 ft x 8 ft raised flue evaporator, reverse osmosis, multiple tanks, draw off system, and a bottling system that makes everything run smooth. During sugaring season, Tyler typically hauls the sap and Courtney typically evaporates (cooks) the sap in order to turn it into the most amazing syrup you will ever taste.  When we are both at the sugarhouse, we take turns firing the evaporator and testing the syrup for doneness.  Be careful not to get burnt!  Once it reaches syrup, we carefully filter it, bottle, and label each container with love.

We are now in the processes of selling our home in Cardington and relocating back to Sunbury.  We are fortunate to be able to build on Tyler's family farm on Rosecrans Rd.  We are hoping to complete the house, shop, and new sugar house in 2022 but still working on designs for the shop and sugar house.

In 2019, we decided to try to grow our family through adoption.  We are homestudy approved which basically means we are legally approved to become parents.  In order to help us afford adoption, we decided to start growing pumpkins as a fundraiser.  The first year, we planted them too late and didn't get a great result.  We did much better in 2020 and were able to grow a huge variety of pumpkins.  We are hoping for similar results again in 2021!  We haven't been matched for adoption yet but we continue to pray for our little one and his/her mama.  We know we will be parents one day, in God's timing.  In the meantime, please share our story with everyone that you know!
